I was going to complain in great detail about the ill-advised bunts by the Rangers that are endorsed by Wash. Several major scoring opportunities have been twarted by bunts. But, like I said, I'm not gonna talk about that right now.
I mean, the Rangers had the Yankees' long reliever on the ropes last week w/ three straight batters reaching base to start the 6th or 7th inning. It was 5-2 Texas and we looked to really put them away. Then, Elvis lays down the perfect bunt to move runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out. The pitcher, who was struggling w/ control both inside the strike zone (the well hit balls) and outside the strike zone (the walk). The Elvis bunt enabled the Yankees to walk Hamilton and face Michael Young.
Young hits into a lot of double plays and taking the bat out of Hamilton's hands is rarely a good thing for the Rangers. He is only the best hitter on the team, and was the hottest at the time.
Needless to say, the bunt allowed the young pitcher to settle down and get out of the inning w/o further damage. I was seething, unintentionally giving the team bad vibes, the rest of the inning after the bunt fearing what would happen.
But, like I said, I don't want to focus on bunting. I'll leave those other instances for another time or try to let it go altogether.
Go Rangers.
